Happy Friday! 💃🏽 Your habits tell you about who you are and can have a huge impact on your health. Habits are things that are hard for us to give up because they are literally wired into our brains through repetition and practice. Habits can be negative or positive; and although we can’t completely get rid of old habits, we can replace them with new positive ones. Breaking an unhealthy habit can be extremely difficult, but it is easier if you replace it with a positive one (not a restriction). New studies show that it takes approximately 66 days to build a habit. Habits run on a cue-rewards system. If you can discover your cue, you can help break bad habits by missing the cue. “Out of sight, out of mind”. Think about what you WANT to do, not what you want to STOP doing. Work on the positive habits and the negative ones will slowly fade with time and persistence. I’m listening to one of my favorite PD books again and I’m reminded again just how powerful our minds can be. • Did you know the longer you think about something the lower your urge to act will be? Now this overthinking may be important for some decisions in life. The big decisions. What I’m talking about are those small decisions like getting out of bed, changing a habit or doing something new. Your mind will betray you as soon as you start thinking about it. Your mind is programmed not to do things hard, uncertain or difficult... so if you think about it.. that’s that.... Nike’s slogan “just do it”. Is famous for a reason. So many of us stop!!! What life changing moments have been squashed by you over thinking things? I bet there are a few. So... this book.... The 5 Second Rule... is about that. Don’t allow yourself to overthink. Just do it. Count backwards 5...4....3....2...1. And do it. It’s how I stopped hitting snooze in the morning. It’s how I have changed my life in other ways. It can change yours too.
